Congratulations!

This past weekend was definitely one to remember for the rest of my life. Coming off of week of chauffeuring my relatives around from location to location, I’ll admit that before the actual wedding, the thought of me missing spvegas has certainly crossed my mind. I wondered if I was missing out on crazy post spop memories. I almost failed to realize that I was to embark on one of the best most emotional days of my life.

I had been spending a lot of my time with family as of late. With my sister’s wedding, and her moving to New York immediately following the wedding, these dwindling moments seemed almost surreal. One moment I would be saddened by the fact that these were the last times that the 4 of us would be together as a family again. At another moment I would be happy and optimistic that with my sister gone, I would be spending more time at home and with the ones I love the most. The wedding was absolutely perfect! I observed my dad walk my sister down the aisle, as my always emotional mom could not keep herself from crying. Even with his tough exterior, I felt the love in his eyes and almost sadness to give her hand to her new husband. My dad is certainly an approachable dude, but when it comes to sentimental moments, it is hard to get any emotion out of him, something I have unfortunately developed myself. This weekend, however, definitely made me realize a lot of things about life and how clichĂ© moments really hold true to their expectations. “Love brings people together.” I can’t think of another time where I saw all my family, all of my sister’s friends in unison, celebrating love. I want to congratulate my sister for finding her soul mate and a new older brother whom I can go to for advice.

I had a chance to sit down after the reception and really recollect my thoughts. What is it that I want out of life? I know that weddings usually entice emotions and I have been constantly hounded by relatives asking me about my own dating situation which I found quite hilarious. For some reason, the wedding taught me not to feel pressured, but to be patient. I learned that one should never lets little things sway you from the important things in life. I promised myself to be thankful for the things we have been blessed with rather than to complain about the things that I don’t have. If this summer has taught me anything, it is that as long as you keep a positive outlook on life and have positive goals set, things will work out for the best. I have found myself praying a lot more this summer. Thanking God for giving me a life of happiness and abundance. I feel as if a lot of us, and this certainly includes myself, question and re-evaluate life only during times of conflict. This wedding really opened my eyes and showed me how privileged I truly am. There was not one frown at the wedding and everyone was in harmony. I feel like it is just as important to re-evaluate our lives and thank God for blessing our lives, even at the smallest of moments. I have great friends, and a great life. What did I do to deserve this? This question is quickly answered by looking at my family. They embrace me with love every single day, so in today’s blog I just want to say THANK YOU mom, dad, and of course congratulations to Sally and Sam!

Touch the sky

I came home from work last Friday evening feeling pretty exhausted. No one was in the apartment. Some of the spop heads had gone to Norcal, Eman was doing his thing with spop coordinating, Jeff had left for Vegas for the weekend, and Sunil was probably finishing his own internship Job in Brea. Sigh…with no one to talk to, I prepared myself for a quiet weekend and decided to glue myself onto the couch, watching espn, and a couple old episodes of Entourage. It was now 6:30pm and Sunil walked in. I immediately challenged him to a videogame match. Our conversation is exactly as follows:

Sunil: what you up to this weekend?
Me: Iono, just chill. You?
Sunil: Finish up some school work. Nothin much I guess.

(zone out for a minute as we were playing the videogame)

Me: wanna go to norcal?
Sunil: Sure.

As nonchalantly as it was, the next thing we knew, we embarked on a quite ridiculous trip in San Francisco. And IT WAS SIIIIIIIIICK! From rap battles to Flashmobbing to performing spopapella on stage, this trip was…what’s a word im looking for?...delightful.

This sudden and certainly short trip, showed me that, sometimes, no matter what the unknown is, you just have to say “fuck it” and truly maximize the moment (thanks jeff) that is given to you. I'm not saying go aimlessly into the abyss, without any preparation. Im saying that if there is any glimpse of hope that things will turn out better than your current situation, then GO FOR IT! I admit it isnt that easy, and that I am quite the hypocrite of the previous statement. I am certainly indecisive and often find myself focusing on negative outcomes, almost to a point that I probably missed out on numerous priceless memories. I get sad to think how many times I avoided hanging out with my mom, dad, cousins, friends. Chances are that we would have made fun memories. With that said, im sorry, everyone! Sorry for being selfish and negative! I encourage anybody going through similar regrets to take something small, whether it be an idea, or any sort of passion, and reach for the stars with it! Run with it! Take it beyond its borders! Think of the positive outcomes and run forward with your eyes closed! With the right mindset, one can make any situation one that you can cherish forever. I learned this summer never to underestimate the true potential of the individual. With the right mindset, we can achieve the unachievable!

Put on your favorite pair of shoes and TOUCH THE SKY!

The magic starts!

As much as I would hope that myself as well as the gold year staff impacted the next 4 years of young minds, I was able to learn some valuable lessons from our spoppers. It wasn’t the energetic one that had me jump around during a dance off in the middle of the day. It wasn’t even the ones who made me shed proud tears during hall closing. No, it wasn’t the dance party, or the random games played til 5am. What stood out among these unbelievable two days was the lone spopper who sat in the corner with his hands crossed throughout most of the activities. I remember several times I would try valiantly to get some sort of emotion out of him, but the only way he would interact was through yes or no questions. At the end of the program, I thought I had failed him as a staffer. I thought that I had failed to engrain in his mind that college life was actually going to be ok. As our hall became closer than ever, high fives were given, hugs were made, and new friendships were created. For a second I had almost forgotten about this particular spopper, but as we crossed paths, I motioned to give him a friendly high five. Instead he grabbed my hand and pulled me in for a hug and said two words that I will never forget…”thank you.” Those simple words put my life into perspective. I now truly believe that any individual has the power to change the world for the better. No, you not have to be a miracle worker or some sort of legendary motivational speaker. Having the right intentions and especially maintaining a positive outlook are the absolute keys to success. Watch out spop 2-10, you have no idea what is going to hit you!

glimpse of the real world

So, I intern at a financial planning firm, where I interact with several wealthy clients. Here, i get a preview on how work life will be like as soon as i graduate. To be honest, it's not as bad as I may think. I work with friendly people, and I look forward to working with nice people like this in the future. I find it funny that i previously imagined the workforce as being a dark and gloomy place to be. If I ever get placed into this unfortunate situation, I want to be prepared. As I see countless number of epic "i quit!" scenes in the movies, i decided to search the internet for funny/creative ideas for how i could make a scene and storm out of the office with my head held high and my dignity in place...well, maybe minus the dignity part:

1: Setup a swinger’s party then invite your boss and his wife over for dinner
2: Turn up to work without any pants on and ask your boss for bathroom directions
3: When your boss asks you to do something, just say to them, “Isn’t that your job?”
4: Set up a fight club in the middle of the office and ask your boss to join in
5: Take a couple of live chickens into work and let them loose in the office

6: Teach a parrot how to say your boss is a cock-sucker and give it to your boss
7: Take some weed into work and light up in the middle of the office
8: Have sex with your boss’s wife and put pictures of it up in the office
9: Walk into your bosses office and start getting yourself off
10: Paint your name in big bold writing all over your bosses car

11: Tell your boss you know he stole your wallet and you want it back
12: Tell your boss that you are going on holiday and forget to come back
13: Just start punching everybody you see in the office including your boss
14: If your boss is a guy and you’re a guy, take a picture of your penis and give it to him
15: Ask your boss if they would like to buy any heroin off you because you have some spare

16: Continue to call your bosses mother a milf on a day to day basis
17: When your boss asks to see what you have done today, just show them porn
18: Take in a calf’s leg and tell your boss that you’re eating an old English guy you met outside
19: Offer to buy your boss a drink everyday and keep putting laxatives in it
20: Email everybody in your office, including your boss that you caught your boss shagging sheep

Don't you hate it when...

...you're used to going to a particular grocery store, and when you walk into a new store and you don't know where the fuck anything is?

Pay the cost to be the boss

So, I recall a conversation I had with my dad over a weekend. It was nice to sit down with him again. Our talks usually end up with him dropping his knowledge, while I rebeliously attempt to dispute his views. On this particular night however, he really seemed to put my obnoxious loud mouth to a halt. After a week full of midterms and papers I was exhausted. My dad asked how this week went, and i responded with a slight shrug and a typical "it was ok" response. He then proceeded to lecture me about how grades are important, and how sometimes I have to put my friends on hold to handel my own shit. This triggered my tendencies and I argued back that I only have one chance to make my college experience the best that it could be. He then said something that I can put to heart forever. "Jason, don't expect anything to be handed to you on a silver plate. In order to truly appreciate the good, sometimes you have endure the bad. Earn everything that means something to you." It was this, moment when i truly believed that everything happens for a reason, and that all the outcomes in life depends on the amount of work that was put in. I can relate to my fear of stepping into the real world, which is just around the corner for myself as well as many of my closest friends that i have made over the years. My boss gave me some friendly advice that the key to happiness is passion and balancing that passion with everyday necessities. If one sincerly believes in something, he/she should not be hesitant, but instead run towards the ends of the earth with it without looking back.

One hit wonder?

Hmmm...lets see how this turns out. Maybe I just feel like exercising my fingers. Maybe it's because I feel emo. Maybe it could be because my roommate Jeff, occasionally accuses me of being a cold hearted emotionless robot. No matter, I can't really say that i have a plan for this weblog, or should I refer to it as a "blog?" Is that what the cool kids are calling it these days? I guess my plans for this blog is to write down my thoughts into typed words, and for anyone who wants to hear me ramble. Lets think of it as the "Omg I am so bored that I'll read about Jason's rant about nothingness" blog. I feel like i have so much on my mind...Or is it that im forcing myself to actually use my brain? No, i am not some inspirational philosopher seeking to start my own cult. No, I dont have infinite knowlege. So, bear with me along this journey, whether it is short or gruesomly long. I don't mean to appear exclusive, but I'm trying this new innovative thing called "opening up to people." Some may have heard of this phrase or not, and for those who know me well, this is a pretty big deal for me. All I know is that the door is cracked open and the welcome mat is in front of you. Just make sure you wipe your feet before you come in. Enjoy.
